BBC Good Food launches its first-ever Alexa skill

The BBC’s popular food media brand, Good Food, has launched its first skill on Amazon’s AI assistant, Alexa, giving cooks around the UK access to more than 11,000 recipes with their voice.

The skill, which is now live on Alexa-enabled devices like the Echo and Echo Dot, was built for BBC Good Food by digital product and innovation consultancy Hi Mum! Said Dad.

It gives users access to the entire Good Food recipe database. These recipes can be searched for via various categories including ingredients, dishes, diet types, time, difficulty, cuisine, course, and chef. For example, users can ask for ‘a quick chicken recipe’ or ‘a vegetarian lasagne recipe. Alternatively, users can just ask ‘Alexa, ask BBC Good Food: what should I cook today?’

Once the user has found a recipe they like the sound of, the BBC Good Food skill will guide them through it step-by-step. And, if paused, the skill will pick up from the point it was stopped in the recipe.
