80% of advertising revenues for Facebook, Twitter came from mobile

Facebook reported a massive 63% rise in its advertising revenue during the quarter and Twitter’s advertising revenue totalled at $535 million.

Two of the top social media companies Facebook and Twitter said that over 80% of the total advertising revenue for both the social networks came from mobile in the quarter gone by. With brands increasingly looking towards digital companies for branding and advertising solutions, brand ad spends especially on mobile have grown significantly.

Facebook reported a massive 63% rise in its advertising revenue during the quarter to $6.2 billion from $3.8 billion in the same quarter in 2015. Out of its total revenues, advertising accounts for 96.9% of it and the rest from payments and other fees.

While advertising on mobile devices accounted for 84% of Facebook’s $6.2 billion in advertising sales. This puts Facebook’s mobile advertising revenues at a massive $5.2 billion.

Twitter’s advertising revenue totalled at $535 million, an increase of 18% year-over-year to $535 million from $452 million in the same quarter in 2015.

Advertising revenues of Twitter, like Facebook, accounts for a major portion of its revenues at 88.9%. The remaining revenue came from data licensing and other revenues.

For Twitter too mobile advertising revenue accounted for 89% of total advertising revenue. This amounts to $476.15 million in mobile advertising revenues.
