An app has been launched to help men check themselves for testicular cancer.
Launched by The Oddballs Foundation, the Oddballs Check Yourself app encourages users to check themselves via a video which will feature a different celebrity each month.
The first video comes from ex-footballer Alan Shearer and includes funny dialogue, easy to follow diagrams and video instructions. The app also sends out an alert once a month reminding and encouraging users to check themselves with the how to guide.
Patron of The Oddballs Foundation and former Premier League footballer, Stephen Harper, said: “This is the most common cancer for males aged 18 to 35 and unless we get a reminder, most of us just don’t think about it. Guys, we’ve all got our phones in our hands, so come on, download the app now. It’s so simple, you even get a reminder to check yourself once a month, so you can’t forget. This could save your life, your son’s life, your father or grandson’s life. It’s that important”.
There are 16,000 new cases of testicular cancer diagnosed in the UK every year. Early detection means that 95% of males can make a full recovery.
The Oddballs Foundation is supported by a number of supporters including international rugby teams, football clubs, cricket clubs and celebrities. The app is now available on the Apple and Android stores.
